Frontier Co-op joins Alliance for Advanced Sanitation

Frontier Co-op, a leader in natural and organic products, has joined the Alliance for Advanced Sanitation.

The alliance, previously called the Alliance for Advanced Food Sanitation, launched by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and founding industry partners in 2015, works to improve sanitation approaches and practices with and for the food industry.

Brewing equipment added to Food Innovation Center

New services are brewing at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Food Innovation Center.

New brewing equipment will be brought online this spring at Nebraska Innovation Campus. It will be available to researchers, students and industry partners.

Fungi expert helps craft beer project

A fungi expert at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has helped define the funk behind Nebraska's first all-homegrown craft beer.

Nebraska's Heather Hallen-Adams holds a beaker of the yeast she helped identify for Lincoln's Boiler Brewing Company. The yeast was used to brew Nebraska Native, an American wild ale and the first commercially available craft beer made only from Nebraska ingredients.

Nebraska Safety Center renews $3.4M grant for transit drivers

The Nebraska Safety Center received a $3.4 million grant to train transit drivers from transportation, bus and transit companies across Nebraska.

The grant, from the Nebraska Department of Roads, follows a three-year collaboration between the Nebraska Safety Center at the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s College of Business and Technology and Center for Public Affairs Research at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

A $3.4 million grant will help train the people who provide transportation options in rural Nebraska, Nebraska Safety Center Executive Director Mick Anderson said. “Transportation has a big impact on rural economies. This program will help improve the quality of living and the economy in rural areas.”

The Gilded Swine food cart enters UNL food truck scene

On October 4, the owners of the food cart The Gilded Swine were ready to go.

Unfortunately, it rained the entire morning and the cart had to cancel that day.

“Just kind of dealing with the ups and downs of that can be kind of fun sometimes,” co-owner and chef Brandon Fowler said.

Innovation incubator for biotech in the works at Innovation Campus

Nebraska’s biotechnology startups soon will have access to a new facility on Nebraska Innovation Campus that provides specialized laboratory space and other support to help them succeed.

Biotech Connector will open on the fourth floor of NIC’s Food Innovation Center in early 2017, providing an innovation incubator for emerging biotech companies. The facility also will be available for established companies that may need a small amount of space and want to be located near UNL’s faculty, students and core facilities.

3M joins Alliance for Advanced Food Sanitation

Materials science company 3M has joined the Alliance for Advanced Food Sanitation, launched last year by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The partnership stemmed from a research collaboration between 3M and the university's Food Processing Center.

Nebraska Food for Health Center to unite strengths in agriculture, medicine

The Nebraska Food for Health Center, a more than $40 million initiative to improve the lives of people around the world, was launched today at the University of Nebraska.

Directed by Andrew Benson (pictured), the Nebraska Food for Health Center will bring together strengths in agriculture and medicine from throughout the university system, and will help develop hybrid crops and foods to improve the quality of life of those affected by critical diseases.
