The Gilded Swine food cart enters UNL food truck scene

On October 4, the owners of the food cart The Gilded Swine were ready to go.

Unfortunately, it rained the entire morning and the cart had to cancel that day.

“Just kind of dealing with the ups and downs of that can be kind of fun sometimes,” co-owner and chef Brandon Fowler said.

Innovation incubator for biotech in the works at Innovation Campus

Nebraska’s biotechnology startups soon will have access to a new facility on Nebraska Innovation Campus that provides specialized laboratory space and other support to help them succeed.

Biotech Connector will open on the fourth floor of NIC’s Food Innovation Center in early 2017, providing an innovation incubator for emerging biotech companies. The facility also will be available for established companies that may need a small amount of space and want to be located near UNL’s faculty, students and core facilities.

3M joins Alliance for Advanced Food Sanitation

Materials science company 3M has joined the Alliance for Advanced Food Sanitation, launched last year by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The partnership stemmed from a research collaboration between 3M and the university's Food Processing Center.

These days, a comparison to a small fish might be more apt. And that fish is swimming in a sea of sharks.

Spreetail is the Lincoln e-commerce company that burst on the scene last fall, announcing its presence with a name change and a move to Nebraska Innovation Campus.

Entrepreneurship task force hosting town halls

The Nebraska Legislature’s Venture Development and Entrepreneurship Task Force plans to hold five town hall meetings across the state this summer, including in Lincoln.

The task force, made up of state sens. Dan Watermeier of Syracuse, Matt Williams of Gothenburg, Paul Schumacher of Columbus, Al Davis of Hyannis, John Stinner of Gering, and Mark Kolterman of Seward, is charged to examine and review the role entrepreneurship and innovation play in Nebraska’s economy.

Founding director of the Alliance for Advanced Food Sanitation named

Angela Anandappa has been named the founding director of the Alliance for Advanced Food Sanitation.

Anandappa will lead the initiation and development of university-industry research projects and outreach programs to the food industry to promote better and more efficient approaches to food sanitation based upon sound scientific and engineering principles.
