E-commerce has become a dirty word in many circles, with people blaming online shopping for killing everything from the mom-and-pop corner store to their favorite mall chain.

So far this year, Radio Shack, Vanity, Family Christian Stores and Rue 21 have all either closed stores in Lincoln or announced plans to do so. And other chains, including Sears, J.C. Penney, Gordmans and Payless ShoeSource, have announced store closings elsewhere in Nebraska.

Spreetail, an e-commerce company located at Nebraska Innovation Campus, is looking to hire 400 people over the next three years.

Weller named head of food science and technology, Food Processing Center

Curtis Weller has been named head of the Department of Food Science and Technology and director of the Food Processing Center at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Weller has held both roles on an interim basis since August 2016, when Rolando Flores left to become dean of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at New Mexico State University.

Former California ag secretary to deliver Heuermann Lecture

Former California Secretary of Agriculture Arthur Gen "A.G." Kawamura will discuss water and global resources during the next Heuermann Lecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The free lecture, sponsored by the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, will be at 4:30 p.m. April 12 at the Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center, 2021 Transformation Drive.

The Mill Coffee & Bistro to open at Nebraska Innovation Campus

NIC's first restaurant has deep roots in Lincoln.

Daniel and Tamara Sloan, owners of The Mill Coffee & Tea, announced their plans to open a third Lincoln location at Nebraska Innovation Campus this summer.

The new shop, to be called The Mill Coffee & Bistro, will feature The Mill’s signature coffees and teas as well as an expanded food menu of breakfast items, lunch items, small plates, snacks, wine and beer.
