Ronnie Green named next UNL chancellor

University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds announced April 6 that following a national search, he has named Ronnie D. Green the next chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Green's appointment is subject to approval by the Board of Regents by its May 25 meeting.

Regional patent office director to visit UNL

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln and NUtech Ventures will host several public events with Molly Kocialski, director of the Rocky Mountain Regional United States Patent and Trademark Office, during her March 29-30 visit to the university.

Innovation Studio hosts woodturners exhibit, reception

Work by the Great Plains Woodturning Club of Lincoln will be displayed at Nebraska Innovation Studio starting March 21. An exhibit reception will be 5 to 7 p.m. April 1 in the NIS Cooper Foundation Makers Gallery.

The event is free and open to the public. The reception attendees also will be invited to take self-guided tours of NIS.

Members of the Great Plains Woodturning Club meet monthly at Nebraska Innovation Studio at Nebraska Innovation Campus.

Virtual Incision mini-robots conduct first known human surgery

Virtual Incision Corp., a company founded by faculty members at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Nebraska Medical Center, has announced the successful first-in-human use of its miniaturized robotically assisted surgical device.

Dmitry Oleynikov, a UNMC professor of surgery, operates a surgical robot as in the background Shane Farritor, a UNL engineering professor, adjusts the camera on the surgical subject in June 2015. The two developed the robot for minimally invasive surgeries. Farritor and Oleynikov's startup company, Virtual Incision, announced March 1 the first use of its miniaturized robot in human surgery.

Safety and health organizations to join NIC

Nebraska Innovation Campus has announced a new partner. Dan Duncan, executive director of NIC, said Great Plains Safety and Health Organization and the Nebraska Safety Center will move into space on campus early this year.

The Great Plains Safety and Health Organization promotes safety, health and environmental responsibility by providing affordable professional education, support and advice. The group helps members and nonmembers to comply with or exceed OSHA, community and internal company safety and health requirements.

Nebraska Innovation Studio offers holiday fun, looks at maker technology

Through a Plexiglass window, kids stared down into the big whirring machine as lasers turned paper into snowflakes. They sat on stools or peered on tip toes while parents hovered over them, trying to catch their own glance.

Hour of Code offers interactive experience for families

Saturday was a morning for coding and tinkering with technology at the Nebraska Innovation Campus.
