Nebraska Innovation Studio celebrates six years of making

When it opened in 2015, Nebraska Innovation Studio had a wide selection of tools and equipment and an open floor plan.

Like many of the projects it has birthed, the potential was there to be filled.

Now, six years later, the makerspace at Nebraska Innovation Campus is celebrating its growth and development into a 16,000-square-foot facility that has scratched the itch for makers of all stripes.“I actually think the desire to make something in the physical world is hardwired in our brains,” said David Martin, director of Nebraska Innovation Studio.

Lincoln firm uses its robot for first time in operating room at Bryan

A Lincoln company that designs and makes small surgical robots has accomplished a milestone.

Virtual Incision said Monday that the first surgery using one of its devices was completed at Bryan Medical Center.

The surgery, done by Dr. Michael Jobst, deployed Virtual Incision's robotic assistant in the partial removal of a patient's colon. The surgery was done laparoscopically through an incision in the navel.

In early April, when the pandemic was keeping most Nebraskans home, Lew Sieber started setting his alarm for 4 a.m.

The 57-year-old would leave his northwest Lincoln home in the dark, headed for Innovation Campus and a 5,000-gallon tanker truck. He wanted to be first in line when the Green Plains ethanol plant near York opened at 7, and he had nearly an hour’s drive west ahead of him.

Agtech incubator at Innovation Campus gets $600,000 grant

An incubator program for agricultural startups that's based at Nebraska Innovation Campus has received a $600,000 grant from the federal government.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced Monday that Invest Nebraska was one of 52 organizations from 36 states receiving a Venture Challenge grant to support entrepreneurship, acceleration of company growth, and increased access to risk capital across regional economies.

Work begins on Innovation Campus hotel

Work has begun on a new six-story hotel at Nebraska Innovation Campus.

St. Louis-based McCarthy Building Companies Inc. said it broke ground this week on the hotel, which is located near the intersection of 21st Street and Transformation Drive, adjacent to the Rise building.

A Lincoln-based biopharmaceutical company announced Wednesday that it has received a $20 million venture capital investment.

The Series A investment for Adjuvance Technologies came from Morningside Venture Investments Limited, a company with offices both in the U.S. and China that has invested in dozens of startups.
