At the forefront of innovation, the Department of Food Science and Technology is dedicated to advancing safe, sustainable and healthy food systems through cutting-edge research, dynamic teaching, impactful outreach and engagement. With a strong commitment to trans-disciplinary collaboration, the Food Science and Technology Department prepares the next generation of leaders in the food industry, academia and government. The department's undergraduate students gain hands-on experience in on-campus research laboratories, pilot plants and more. The department also awards hundreds of scholarships annually to support student success. 

The mission of the Food Science and Technology Department is to provide high-quality education and training for careers in food science and technology, while supporting the food industry through impactful research, extension and community engagement. The Food Science and Technology Department is home to two centers (Food Processing Center and Nebraska Food for Health Center) and two programs (Food Allergy Research and Resource Program and the Gnotobiotic Mouse Program) that foster strong, interdisciplinary efforts in research, education and outreach.
