The Final Inning of the “Once Upon a Time…The Sherman-Howard County Baseball League” Exhibit

Sunday, April 28, 2024 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm Nebraska Innovation Campus, 2nd Floor Link

The “Final Inning” will be from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. where fans and spectators, players and baseball enthusiasts will gather and hopefully hear where the NEXT and 27th “Opening Pitch” will be. Stay tuned and maybe it will be at a location near you! The 26th “opening pitch”, of this exhibit commemorating Sherman-Howard County town team baseball, was thrown out on March 1st, here. Over the last couple weeks, many UNL students, Conference attendees, visitors of all ages from across the state and beyond, Petersville Iowa to Centennial Colorado, have dropped by to reminisce and share their own stories and also read tales and happenings from the Field of Dreams, The Natural and Bull Durham era of “wooden bats and steel cleats.” What started out in the 1980’s with a genealogical research find of a 1926 Howard County Championship team photo with his grandfather in it has not stopped. When Randy ” bat man” Lukasiewicz , founder of the Farwell Athletic Club and creator of the Farwell Fence Buster’s ball team, a long time ago asked Coach Osborne, who has roots back to the Farwell Nebraska area, what he should do with all his pictures, Coach Osborne simply replied “I’m sure you’ll think of something.” He was right! This exhibit has traveled across the state to many a library, ballpark, banquet, Museum, gym, school, Historical Society, party, diner, studio and exhibition hall.
