Innovation Campus to host 2022 Nebraska Bluegrass concert series

Nebraska Innovation Campus has partnered with local organizations to offer and host the 2022 Nebraska Bluegrass Concert Series.

The live music concert series is free and open to the public. It will feature bluegrass bands from the Appalachian regions, Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and Lincoln-based groups. The concerts will take place at 6 p.m. in the plaza at Nebraska Innovation Campus on Aug. 10, Sept. 14 and Oct. 12. Food and drink will be available for purchase from The Mill Coffee and Bistro starting at 5 p.m.

$1.6M federal award supports academic space at Scarlet Hotel

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has received a $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce to complete an academic facility offering real-world teaching within The Scarlet Hotel.

The funds will initiate the build-out of a 100-seat classroom and offices within the hotel, offering new opportunities for Huskers seeking hospitality, restaurant and tourism management degrees through the College of Education and Human Sciences.

HRTM grad begins career at The Scarlet Hotel

The ribbon cutting for The Scarlet Hotel on May 6 holds double significance for Rebecca Ellers. Not only will the occasion mark the grand opening of the brand-new 154-room Marriott Tribute Portfolio Hotel located on Nebraska Innovation Campus, but it also serves as the launch of Ellers’ career in the hospitality industry.

Rebecca Ellers began working at The Scarlet Hotel in January, as part of her final internship for the HRTM program. She now serves as the front desk supervisor.

Two Nebraska startups get federal small-business grants

Two startups that are part of the Combine Incubator at Nebraska Innovation Campus have been awarded federal small-business grants.

Birds Eye Robotics and Thyreos Inc. both received Small Business Innovation Research grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

Scarlet Hotel is open to serve Huskers

Nebraska’s Scarlet Hotel is open for business.

Located at Nebraska Innovation Campus, the 154-room Marriott Tribute hotel is home to The Good Life Coffee Shop; the Well & Good, the hotel’s signature restaurant; and the Barred Owl, the rooftop bar with incredible views of Lincoln. The hotel’s restaurant, bar and coffee shop are open to the public and feature Nebraska-inspired cuisine and drinks.

Governor signs budget with investment in ag innovation facility

Gov. Pete Ricketts on April 4 signed a mid-biennium budget package for the state that makes investments in key priorities of the University of Nebraska System, including the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s agricultural innovation facility.

Parking changes at NIC for paved lot north of Transformation Drive

Parking changes are coming to the paved lot north of Transformation Drive for people that do not have a NIC parking permit or a UNL parking permit.

Starting April 4, 2022, people that do not have a NIC parking permit or a UNL parking permit will be required to pay for parking in the paved lot north of Transformation Drive using the Passport Parking app. This is the same parking app used when parking on the street at NIC, in downtown Lincoln and in the Haymarket.

Nebraska Safety Center, UNO receive $3.4M grant to support state’s public transportation

The University of Nebraska was recently awarded a $3.4 million grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) to improve, promote and support public transit agencies across the state.

The funding extends through June 2024 a partnership between the University of Nebraska at Kearney, University of Nebraska at Omaha and NDOT focused on creating a safer, more efficient and more reliable public transportation system for all Nebraskans while addressing the unique mobility challenges many rural residents face.

Food Processing Center aids in launching products

The Food Processing Center, located on NIC, has had a hand in the development of many companies and their products.

NuTek Natural Ingredients is one of those companies that took advantage of the state-of-the-art facility, its labs, office space and expertise in food science to develop its salt alternative, Salt for Life.

Electric vehicle charging stations now operational at NIC

Electric vehicle charging stations are now operational at NIC! You will find two charging stations located in the south end of the Greenhouse Innovation Center parking lot. The charging stations can be used by NIC Partners and the general public.
