Albright to deliver food workshop keynote on May 18

Madeleine Albright, a former U.S. secretary of state, will deliver the keynote address during the Food Factory of the Future Workshop at UNL's Nebraska Innovation Campus.

Albright's address, which is free and open to faculty, staff and students, is 9:15 a.m. May 18 in the NIC auditorium. The talk, "Feeding a Global Population," will address ways to make high-quality food accessible and affordable worldwide. Albright will also discuss the need to feed and nourish a growing population in a sustainable way. A short question and answer session will follow the talk.

Korean cuisine company announces intent to move to NIC

An Omaha-based company specializing in Korean foods announced its intention April 20 to move to Nebraska Innovation Campus.

Cooper Foundation grant to expand Innovation Studio

The Cooper Foundation of Lincoln has provided a grant of $200,000 to support the Nebraska Innovation Studio, a 16,000-square-foot maker space in the Innovation Commons Building at Nebraska Innovation Campus.

"This charter investment in Nebraska Innovation Studio embodies one of the hallmarks of Cooper Foundation grant making,” said Jack Campbell, chairman of the board of trustees of the Cooper Foundation. "We strive to provide early investment in ventures of significant promise, and the development of this maker space certainly fits the bill."

This is the true story of 23 UNL students from various academic backgrounds, picked to work together and learn about new technologies; to find out what happens when people start tinkering and begin to develop bigger ideas.

This is "Making for Innovation," a unique, first-time UNL course offered in the new Innovation Studio at Nebraska Innovation Campus.

Nebraska Innovation Campus announces 3 new partners

Nebraska Innovation Campus has announced three new partners. Dan Duncan, executive director of NIC, said Hastings HVAC, Echo Canyon Services and Quantified Ag would move into space on campus later this year.

'Making for Innovation' will be first class at NIC

A new course will allow up to 30 students to get hands-on experience and help launch the UNL Maker Space in the spring semester.

The course, "Making for Innovation," will be the first to meet at Nebraska Innovation Studio — formerly the UNL Maker Space — on Nebraska Innovation Campus. Shane Farritor, professor of mechanical and materials engineering, and Liana Owad, Maker Space coordinator, will guide the class.

City, UNL partner to create unique renewable energy system at NIC

Through a unique renewable energy system, UNL students and Lincoln residents help provide energy to heat and cool Nebraska Innovation Campus when they shower and flush.

The Centralized Renewable Energy System, or CRES, warms and cools buildings by exchanging heat from treated wastewater discharged from a city facility next to the research park.
