UNL Media Advisory - News conference, tour of new renewable energy system Tuesday at NIC

Lincoln, Neb., Oct. 27, 2014 -- University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman, Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler and others will appear at a news conference on Tuesday unveiling and detailing the new Centralized Renewable Energy System (CRES) at Nebraska Innovation Campus. The unique renewable energy system is among a handful in the world that warms and cools buildings by exchanging heat from treated wastewater discharged from a city facility next to the research park.

Nebraska Innovation Campus poised for next phase of growth

Phase I of development at UNL's Nebraska Innovation Campus is ahead of schedule, with facilities taking shape that will attract talent, open new opportunities for students and faculty and grow Nebraska’s economy.

Interdisciplinary retreat fosters collaboration

Research collaborations begin with conversations.

That was the message at UNL's 2014 Interdisciplinary Faculty Retreat on May 15-16, which also served as the kickoff event at Nebraska Innovation Campus' new conference center. Researchers from across campus met their faculty colleagues and learned about research going on at the university.

First NIC facilities roll toward summer finish

Nebraska Innovation Campus will open for business this summer as the first two buildings and a four-season greenhouse go online.

Construction on the former State Fair Park continues as the two buildings — the former 4-H Building and new Companion Building — are scheduled to open for a June move-in. Work on the state-of-the-art greenhouse will begin soon.

Farritor, student group help propel Maker Space concept

A quiet staging area for ongoing NIC construction, the space is reserved for a proposed Maker Space and the private/public research campus’ new business accelerator. NIC planners and UNL administrators hope the mix bubbles forth into a cauldron of hands-on creativity and innovation.

The former Nebraska State Fair exhibit space on the first floor of the 4-H Building at Nebraska Innovation Campus has been reserved for a Maker Space and the NIC’s business accelerator. University administrators are seeking funds to create the space, which would allow individuals access to a variety of tools.

Duncan to provide update on NIC

A pair of open information sessions about Nebraska Innovation Campus will take place this week. The first is 1 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Nebraska Union Auditorium; the second is at 1 p.m. Nov. 15 in the East Union Arbor Suite. Nebraska Innovation Campus expands leadership team

Nebraska Innovation Campus has made recent changes and additions to its leadership team. Executive director Dan Duncan announced that Kate Engel has accepted the position of community engagement and operations manager, while Terence Bowden has accepted the position of business accelerator director.

City, UNL partner on Nebraska Innovation Campus renewable energy system

Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler and University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman announced Friday a joint project to use reclaimed, non-drinkable water from the city’s Theresa Street Wastewater treatment plant to heat and cool facilities at Nebraska Innovation Campus.

UNL’s investment of $12 million in the Central Renewable Energy System, or CRES, has been approved by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents and will be introduced to the Lincoln City Council on Sept. 30.

Nebraska Innovation Campus to collaborate with ConAgra Foods

"Breaking Ground for the Future" was the theme for a major announcement today on a new level of collaboration between University of Nebraska-Lincoln and ConAgra Foods. The collaboration continues and accelerates research and development projects at Nebraska Innovation Campus -- the university's project for private-public innovation and research.
