Nebraska Innovation Campus

Overview & Vision

Opportunity Overview

The State of Nebraska has passed legislation that will transfer a 249-acre parcel to UNL on January 1, 2010. This area, directly north of the UNL City Campus, was designated to be used for, and transformed into, Nebraska Innovation Campus (NIC), a public/private research and technology development center.

Qualified Responders are encouraged to make arrangements through UNL for access to available technical information about the site. The property is currently the location of the Nebraska State Fair, which will move to Grand Island, Nebraska.

The Vision

The NIC proposed by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln offers Nebraskans a way to capitalize on the economic growth potential of UNL's research.

The significant recent growth of research, both at UNL and at the University of Nebraska Medical Center holds promise for attracting private sector partners who may wish to collaborate or commercialize the products of University research. NIC seeks to leverage this opportunity, to create a development that will permit private sector companies to locate on NIC but only if they have a significant relationship to UNL.

Private companies benefit from the following relationships:
  • Mutual research interests with University faculty that could lead to joint or collaborative research efforts;
  • Internships by university students;
  • Access to scientific eduation and advancement for their employees;
  • Opportunities for sharing of expensive core facilities and instrumentation;
One of the primary attractions to the NIC will be the opportunity of private sector companies to become an intimate partner with the University and to locate adjacent to University research facilities and faculties.

The University wants to determine the highest and best use for the NIC, taking into account the objectives of the university in developing the NIC in order to generate economic growth for Nebraska by leveraging the University's research enterprise.
